Detailed description of Mission Trails Golf Course

Mission Trails Golf Course is a Public 18 hole golf course located in San Diego, California.

Mission Trails Golf Course first opened for play in 1950. The course was designed by William P. Bell.

This 18-hole Par 71 located in the San Carlos area of San Diego is a favorite of course for local golfers. The front nine is fairly flat yet challenging while the back nine snakes through the canyons and provides some great elevation changes and scenic views. Save some strength and your uphill lie skills for the Mission Trails closing hole which is a very challenging 275 yard par-4 shot straight up hill with some very rewarding and panoramic views of Lake Murray to end a great round of golf.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6,004 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,119 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 14, a par-5 that plays to 574 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 7, a par-3 that plays to 144 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 1, a 538 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Mission Trails Golf Course is # 18, a 275 yard par-4.

With lunch and 2 drinks it's hard to complain about the price. If you're in the area and looking for some place to hit the ball around it would serve you fine. Certainly not a resort layout but doesn't purport to be one either. Overall not a bad deal for the price, especially in San Diego.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

Native San Diegan and I really like Mission Trails for the price and change of pace. American Golf really should learn how to run a Golf Course. They are terrible @ Mission Trails. Fivesomes on a Saturday? 42 minutes late on our T time? 3 hours for the front nine holes? What does that tell you about how they "don't run" this place. Better to play Monday thru Friday cuz they can not manage weekends here!

Mission Trails is fun—and in a city where an average round of golf is as much as a tank of gas, it is a great value. The greens are in great condition, but I agree with everybody else about the pace, it's a problem. Though the course might not be vacation-worthy, if you are coming to SD for a golf vacation to play the other course designed by William Bell (Torrey Pines-South), Mission Trails is a diamond in the rough.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

This is a fun course, but when you've been on the course over 5 1/2 hours on a Friday afternoon, it kind of works on you. Green are good and enjoy the course, Wife and I play it 4 or 5 times durning our 2 month winter stay

Have Played the course over 500 times in 11 years. Makes you concentrate on your next shot and keeping the ball in play. Greens can be difficult to read and you need to below most holes.

They have done a lot of improvements to this course over the years. Keep in mind it is an American Golf Facility. The managers and greenskeeper are outstanding. If some of the players would pick up the pace of play a bit it would be more fun.

Mission Trails is priced well for what you get. A fun course to sharpen your game. It has always had problems with drainage, pace of play and fairway conditions....but sometimes you just gotta play...and you can do it her just about anytime. NOT a walkers course in the summer. Plan on riding or climbing a lot of hills.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Worse than average course for the area

This is a nice little course. It is a public course with a couple of curious hole layouts that can slow play considerably, but all in all well worth the price of admission.
